Course Overview
This course is crucial in the current and future workforce environments and will assist in growing and developing your workplace health and safety, suitable for a broad spectrum of industry sectors.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to follow organisational infection prevention and control procedures, including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to infection risks. This unit applies to individuals working in health and direct client care contexts. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.
This course is suitable for those working in Retail, Food handling and logistics and transport.
Retail could include Shops in shopping centres, cinemas and game arcades, convenience stores, including Petrol stations, supermarkets, beauty salons, hairdressing salons, sporting facilities, indoor/outdoor markets.
Food handling could include Restaurants, cafes and casual dining, fast food outlets, aged care and disability facilities, mobile food/coffee cards, bars that incorporate food service and online food delivery businesses.
Logistics and Transport could include courier companies, service centres, distribution centres/warehouses, commercial buildings, yards and storage facilities, delivery options for fast food chains, supermarkets etc.

Course Details
This unit covers the following areas:
- Hand hygiene and care of hands
- Use of personal protective equipment
- Handling of waste
- Enforcing clean and contaminated zones
- Limitation of contamination
- Surface cleaning for infection control
- Identify infection hazards and assessing risks
- Best practice virus and bacterial infection and control
Workplace requirements
Some skills must be completed in a workplace. The practical assessments at workplace can be observed via Zoom or video recording (during the COVID-19 pandemic).
There are no pre-requisites for this Unit.
Upon successful completion students will receive a Statement of Attainment in HLTINFCOV001 – Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
