Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (WHITE CARD)

Course Overview

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness of the knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common constructions hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

Entry Requirements

Students must provide Photographic Identification (Licence, Passport etc.). If assistance is required in regard to language, literacy and numeracy, please advise your trainer prior to enrolment. Our Students Handbook contains our policies and procedures for information prior to enrolment and is available for download from our website.

Recognition of Prior Learning

You can apply for RPL if you have the knowledge and skills gained through work, formal study, volunteering, informal or formal training, social activities or general life experiences. If you feel that you may qualify for RPL, please contact our office for further information about the process to demonstrate your experience and knowledge.

Resources Required

Participants are required to wear appropriate clothing including enclosed footwear. Alana Kaye College will provide participants with learning material and assessment documentation. A range of assessment methods are used to enable participants to demonstrate competency including written knowledge test, written calculations test and practical test.

Participants will need to demonstrate correctly fitting the PPE listed below. We have these available for use or some people may prefer to use their own:

  • Eye protection
  • Hearing protection
  • Hard hat
  • High visibility retro reflective vest
