Community Services Courses

Working in Community Services deals with vulnerable people who might be experiencing discrimination, poverty, hardship and difficulty managing their own lives. Community services deliver much-needed help when it comes to providing relief with aged, disability, child and other services that all affect the community’s most vulnerable. The CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services is designed for people wishing to apply for employment within the role of community services, case management and social housing. They are generally involved in managing, coordinating and/or delivery of person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities. This course will teach you how to listen to and understand people’s problems, background and circumstances and to be able to counsel them on the areas they are struggling with. You will learn how to help clients by setting them up with support systems and networks and developing plans which will address their immediate and long-term issues. This diploma course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to advise and supervise other Community Service Workers’ case management practices, as well as to manage budgets and financial plans, and undertake project work.

The CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management reflects the role of workers who are middle managers or managers across a range of community sector organisations. These people work independently and report to executive management, directors or boards of management. They undertake a range of functions requiring the application of knowledge and skills to achieve results in line with the organisation’s goals and strategic directions.
At this level, workers have responsibility for planning and monitoring service delivery, recruitment and performance management of other paid or unpaid workers, managing risk and contributing to continuous improvement within the scope of their specific role. This may include management of a specific programs or project, or broader management of a community-based organisation, early childhood education service, not-for-profit organisation or community centre.
