Bruce commenced his learning with Alana Kaye College in 2011 where he completed his TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. During this training Bruce learnt a lot about the VET industry as well as different training styles and techniques and this helped him to determine the next stage in his career. It was then that he realised that he enjoyed training and helping others.

In 2010 Bruce had a significant health scare which was the catalyst that had him investigating the world of training to see if he could pass his considerable knowledge onto others, particularly in the world of construction. Bruce also wanted to ensure his future work prospects were still strong and that he had a better work/life balance. Getting ‘off the tools’ was important to him and training others seemed to be the answer.

Bruce started off his working career in Construction as an apprentice carpenter in 1982. This apprenticeship took him four years to complete. From there he became a partner in a family construction business and moved to Melbourne where he obtained his builder’s licence. He worked in this industry as a builder in Victoria and the Northern Territory for approximately 25 years.

Bruce’s ongoing joy of training came from his position in a local Northern Territory High school where he taught and mentored young students in construction in their VET in Schools program. He completed five years in this position and during this time he continued his learning and development with Alana Kaye. He successfully completed his BSB51107 Diploma of Management and his BSB40412 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.

As a consequence of the hard work that Bruce put in, he was offered a senior training position with Alana Kaye College, working with our broad student base and teaching Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety. Bruce’s feedback from his students was excellent and he was always happy to spend time assisting and encouraging others in their pursuit of further learning.

Bruce is now employed by Catholic Education in the Northern Territory as a Trainer and Assessor and works extensively in remote communities passing his knowledge onto others.
